Poled, not motored
A traditional Cambridge punt, pushed along by a chauffeur with a wooden pole. No engine noise, no diesel, and a pace slow enough to actually look at things.
Camden Lock · Regent's Canal · since 2012
Forty five minutes on the prettiest stretch of Regent's Canal, in a traditional punt, with a live guitarist or accordionist sat a few feet away from you.

What you're actually getting
We are the small wooden thing gliding past the big loud ones. That is the entire point.
A traditional Cambridge punt, pushed along by a chauffeur with a wooden pole. No engine noise, no diesel, and a pace slow enough to actually look at things.
Guitarists and accordionists from Camden's endless supply of talent, playing live on board. No two trips sound the same, which is a decent excuse to come back.
Any food, any drink, and your dog. If you forget something we will happily run to the shop or off licence before we set off, at no extra cost.

Trips
Shared trips and private hires are both arranged directly with us. Tell us the date and we will come straight back to you.
London
Camden Lock, past the houseboats and hidden gardens, out to London Zoo and back, with music the whole way.
Cambridge
The same punt, the same live music, along the backs of the Cambridge colleges. Where all of this started, before the licences went.
October nights
An hour on the water after dark. Candlelit, misty and thoroughly eccentric: Poe and Lovecraft read aloud, spooky tunes played live. There is nothing else like it in London.
One way trips to Regent's Park are possible at the same price. We slow the punt down so you still get around thirty five minutes of music out of it.

Our story
We ran historical tours along the college backs until the licences were carved up between the big operators. Small independents like us were politely told we would not be trading again.
Friends in the same position banded together to fight it. That looked like a David and Goliath story with an unhappy ending, so we took the punt to London instead.
Getting licensed onto Regent's Canal took endless red tape. At first the punt had to carry an engine: Camden Lock to Little Venice and back, an hour and a half, twelve passengers. Not a business that was going to last.
Desmond, who ran the piano shop in Camden Market, suggested we put a piano on the boat. In the same season the Canal and River Trust allowed the pole back for propulsion. The engine came out, the piano went in, and The Music Boat existed.
The piano was later ruled unsafe, a judgement based on how it looked rather than how it floated. It was replaced by very good guitarists and accordionists, who are on the boat to this day.
A gentleman decided to climb the footbridge's support beam. The beam stops two thirds of the way across. He hung there until he fell in, to loud cheers from a busy towpath, and it became clear rather quickly that he could not swim. We untied the punt, got the pole out over the gunwale, he grabbed the end, and we pulled him aboard.
Following a trip, the actor and comedian Noel Fielding called The Music Boat

Before you come
Forty five minutes from Camden Lock out to London Zoo and back, with live music the whole way. One way trips to Regent's Park are the same price and we slow the punt down so you still get around thirty five minutes on the water.
Yes, whatever you like. If you have forgotten something we are happy to run to the shop or off licence before we set off, at no extra cost.
Dogs are very welcome. So are most other well behaved animals.
London being London, a bit of drizzle is normal and the trip still runs. If conditions are genuinely unsafe we will call you and move you to another slot.
Both are available. Most passengers join a shared trip. You can also take the whole boat for a birthday, a proposal, a work thing, or simply because you would rather not share.
By the railings just after the footbridge, opposite the arch leading into the West Yard food market, right in front of Cafe Chula. Camden Lock Place, NW1 8AF.
A rotating cast of Camden guitarists and accordionists. We do not publish who is on which trip because half the charm is not knowing.
